Planning - it's how I finished my book

You see that calendar behind me? It's a big part of how I went from I-Wish-I-Could-Write-A-Book Past Mel to Published Author Present Mel. A year ago I read The 12 Week Year by Brian P. Moran and Michael Lennington and I took what I liked from the book and cobbled together my own system. It involves:

1. A word doc of every goal I want to achieve in the next 12 weeks (ish) and all the steps I need to achieve them. INCLUDING most importantly, my 2-3 intentions for that time period. (Clear space, serve my audience, create something that will help people, etc)

2. A weekly checklist (I make it in Numbers on my computer) of everything that needs to happen that week... even those repeated tasks like writing my newsletter or uploading my podcast.

3. Post-it's on a wall calendar. Each post-it represents 1 or a bundle of several items. The calendar is key... it's what keeps me from dramatically overestimating how much I can accomplish in a quarter. If too many post-it's start piling up in one spot, I know I've got a problem and I can re-strategize.

4. Once a Post-it is done, I move it onto my progress board. My goal is to reach 100k people with free stuff. Even if the numbers aren't rising like I want, I can see my efforts adding up.
