Read this if you need a boost

I just finished a big run with Bailey-boo (dog) and I have to be honest with you… I really didn’t want to do it. It’s been gray and raining here for what feels like forever and running, even on a nice day, is a lot of work. But, I did it for Future Mel. I knew short-term Future Mel would feel better (hello, endorphins) and long-term Future Mel would be grateful as well (hello, better health).

So I did it for Future Mel and I’m glad I did.

Yesterday, I did a favor for Future Mel and I didn’t realize how helpful of a favor it would be.

I use a mediation app called Headspace (highly recommend). Yesterday, Headspace asked me if I wanted to write a short love note to Future Mel which would be delivered today. I went for it because it only allowed 125 characters (so I knew it wouldn’t take long) and this sort of thing is my jam, right?

I’m so grateful Past Mel did that for me.

You see, I had a pretty challenging day yesterday and when my love note from Past Mel showed up this morning...

it was exactly the encouragement and cheerleading I needed.

I spend a lot of time reminding you to leave helpful notes for Future You, right? Things like “Don’t forget you have a checklist for filing taxes. Here’s where you can find it.” And “You always get overwhelmed by the Christmas decorations. Just start with the lights and call it good.”

Now, I’m going to ask you to leave a cheerleading note for Future You. Something to remind Future You that Future You is pretty awesome.

TODAY’S CHALLENGE

That’s right. I said today… not this week or this month. Today. This will literally take you 1 minute, and you can probably do it from whatever you’re using to read this post.

Write a 1-2 sentence note to Future You. Start with:

Dear YOUR NAME, I love…. (positive things about yourself)

Then, take what you wrote and put it into your calendar as an event. Set it up so you’ll get a notification in 2 days. Or add it to your reminder app. Or flip a couple of pages ahead in your paper planner and write it there.

Got it?

Really do this. Future You will be glad you did. Maybe Future You will be so grateful this will become a regular practice.
